How it all started
The Boule de coton adventure began one morning in August 2018 in a little town near Nîmes. It was early that morning and the heat was already so intense that even the cicadas didn’t have the strength to sing. But it was the perfect conditions for the "idea" that sprouted in my head after tossing and turning all night to finally come to life. Around the breakfast table that morning i voiced my idea to the think tank (my family)!
Lily (my daughter) immediately came up with the name "Boule de coton". Meanwhile, Merlin (my son) grabbed his sketchbook and offered new ideas. Laurent (my husband) was appointed the technical director (researcher to see if these ideas were even a possibility). Even Manon (the little cousin) was asked to create the logo that was still only in my imagination at that time.
With so much enthusiasm our project was born and we haven’t looked back since.
But where does this idea come from?
In the last few years, i have grown tired of the consumer society we live in, a society where it has become normal to buy, at a ridiculously low price, "disposable" clothing that does not convey any ethics, pollutes the environment excessively and poisons us slowly.
Faced with the difficulty of finding for my children, organic, aesthetic and fun clothes, i chose to create Boule de Coton - a brand that resembles us!
Boule de coton focuses on organic and ethical products. It offers a responsible consumption by no longer endorsing massive pollution from the textile industry, and a better way to take care of your children’s skin.
If everybody does their part, the change can be spectacular !
To protect Nature
- By carefully choosing certified organic cotton whose cultivation respects the ground, the water tables, the fauna and surrounding flora.
- By using ecological aqueous inks
- By choosing recycled paper for our postcards, posters and business cards as well as our packaging and shipping boxes
- By using local actors with the same values and by producing certain products ourselves, we reduce our carbon footprint
To protect children's skin
- By choosing certified organic cotton free of toxic products
- By using aqueous inks, without solvents nor toxic chemicals
Little manufacture secrets
We are all passionate about aesthetics and creation; drawing, painting, calligraphy, photography, sewing, decoration... You would have guessed it: all the visuals of Boule de Coton items are thought out, drawn and converted into digital version at home. We also stage and photograph them ourselves before being posted on the website.
The choice of raw materials
We choose carefully the raw materials that go into the composition of the items we offer.
Our cotton is certified GOTS or Standard certified organic content by the Control Union. Our papers and packaging are made of recycled paper or cardboard. Ink transfers, posters and other cards are sold water-based, without toxic products or solvents.
We try as much as possible to hand-make the items we offer. The cheche is a 100% homemade item. The "star" pouches are customised by us. For everything else, we rely on local partners who share our values. Thus, the pressing of the transfers and the printing of the posters are made in Nîmes.
